Lesson Learned: Plan Your Projects

Starting last night around 8:30 until about 12:30 and then this morning around 8:00 until just a few minutes ago my wife and I worked on two painting projects: our bathroom and our bedroom.  I had asked my wife to check the painting supplies we had so that when we went to the home supply store we’d get everything in one trip.  She forgot because our little ones kept her sufficiently distracted and I also forgot to go check out the box of painting supplies before we left to drop of our girls at my parents where they would spend the night while we did a major chunk of painting upstairs.

Because we forgot and we miscommunicated (and also discovered a surprise drywall patch job requirement that the previous homeowners covered with some chair rail in our master bedroom) I ended up having to go to the hardware store a total of three times instead of just once.  That was added gasoline use, inefficiency in time and effort, and most likely more money spent in parts and pieces.

Total spent: $130.00.

We could have spent less and I probably wouldn’t have had to fill up the gas tank this evening if we had planned more carefully.

The upside is that the light green color we chose for our master bedroom is gorgeous and we both really, really like it :)
