Ten Opportunities to Blow Money at the Airport
I had to travel today. As I was sitting in the airport I was trying to make my time productive and came up with this list.
Opportunities to blow money at the airport
1. Paying for Wi-Fi internet access (airports like Portland International kindly give you free access. Most others do not). They want just shy of $20.00 for me to access it ONCE here at DIA
2. Expensive food
3. Expensive water
4. Sitting doing nothing. This ‘costs’ you nothing, but your time is valuable - make use of it
5. Paying to use the internet kiosk to access MySpace (it seems that teenagers are the target group for these horribly over-priced computers with internet access)
6. Buying anything in the junk stores selling local souvenirs
7. Exchanging money at the international currency exchange booth at the airport. Often times you can work things out to use a pre-paid credit card for less and limit the risk of your loss. I wouldn’t recommend a pre-paid credit card any other time, but this is a good time to reduce risks with one. Just keep track of what you spend
8. Buying anything to drink before going through security only to discover that you have more than three ounces that will not fit into a plastic baggy… thus having to throw it away
9. Accidentally forgetting your pocket knife was in your pocket. The TSA is going to take it away. I lost a knife that was a gift to the TSA because I forgot that it was in my pocket
10. Buying alcohol at the airport. This is taxed so high its insane - its expensive enough for many beverages that adding the airport’s tax and the county’s tax and the city’s tax and the states tax makes buying booze here a proof that you’re a no brainer
