I found free food in my house today.  I did something that apparently I should have been doing all along: I cleaned out my pantry.  We had at least $10.00 worth of ingredients that we didn’t know we had because it was buried behind other stuff that we were ignoring (until we needed it, hopefully).  If you’ve not cleaned out your pantry in some time give it a go, you could be surprised by whats in there.  Surprised in at least two ways: there can be some surprises of the nasty sort.  Potatoes that have taken on a life of their own for example.  Or maybe you’ll discover that you’ve got food that has been needed but you thought you were out of.

I found some rock salt that would have been handy in making some home made ice cream had I had it earlier last month.  Instead I had to run to the grocery store and buy more.  Now I have much more than I need only I didn’t know it because someone tucked it away in our pantry (it could be my mother-in-law who helps clean up the house when she visits, but once she’s gone the knowledge that the items are in their new locations is also gone).  Either way I’m glad I did a little clean out today on my lunch break.

Bonus points for the weirdest item reported in a clean-up left in the comments.
