Blunderbuss

Idiot Test A blunderbuss is a type of archaic gun, but that being said, I made a big blunder last night and am totally embarrassed by my own dimwittedness. We went to dinner with my sister and her husband and had to split from the table quickly so that I could go pick up the girls from my parents, one of which had started feeling ill. I had handed cash to the waitress and said, “Keep the change.” I’m an idiot. She would have been able to keep change… negative 48 cents to be exact. Negative. As in I foolishly underpaid and didn’t tip, even though the service had been good and the food came out as ordered and she had checked on us multiple times. Kindly my sister and brother-in-law picked up the difference and gave her an extra tip for my half, too.

I now owe them a bit and wish that I had not been such a goober in my rush to leave. Have you ever done this? I feel like I can’t be alone, but that may be rooted in me not wanting to be alone in my imbecilic behavior.

I love to eat and I love to support small business. I do both whenever I can. Tammy and I tried a new mom & pop Italian place a while back. When we left I miscalculated the tip on receipt. (I always pay with my bank card.) It was not until the next day when I was entering my receipts into my check register that I realized I had seriously short-changed the waitress who’d done a stellar job. I drove back to the restaurant and remedied the situation in person. I was able to tell the waitress face-to-face that she had done a great job and that I was sorry for the mix-up. I could tell by her reaction and the reactions of her coworkers that she had probably bad mouthed me for my lousy tip because they gave her sideways snickers and she seemed pretty embarrassed. So not only did I redeem myself, I unintentionally taught her a great lesson.
